Five Everyday Habits That Lower Your Risk of NCDs
Small daily choices about food, movement, tobacco and alcohol make a big difference to your long-term health.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some cancers are linked to the way we live. These five habits can lower your risk:
- Eat more vegetables, fruits and whole grains and fewer fried and sugary foods.
- Use less salt. The World Health Organization recommends less than 5 grams (about one teaspoon) a day for adults.
- Move your body. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity, such as brisk walking, every week.
- Do not use tobacco, and avoid other people's smoke.
- Limit alcohol, or avoid it completely.
Together with regular health checks, these habits help you stay healthy for longer.
