Clean Water, Hand Washing and Sanitation at Home

Simple hygiene steps protect your family from diarrhoea, cholera and other infections.

Many common illnesses, including diarrhoea and cholera, spread through dirty hands, unsafe water and poor sanitation. A few simple habits protect the whole family:

  • Wash hands with soap and clean water after using the toilet, before preparing food, before eating and after caring for a sick person.
  • Make drinking water safe by boiling it or treating it, and store it in a clean, covered container.
  • Use a clean toilet or latrine and keep it covered.
  • Keep food covered and wash fruits and vegetables before eating.
  • Dispose of rubbish properly and do not leave standing water where mosquitoes can breed.

Sanitation is one of the topics TAF-DCR covers in its community health education sessions.
